Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar; in India and Pakistan Ramadan often begins one day later after local moon sighting — shift by a day if your committee announces so. Sehri ends 3 min before Fajr; Iftar 3 min after sunset. Shaded rows: the last ten nights, with the odd nights (Taaq Raat) marked.

Niyyah for Sehri (intention of fasting)

Wa bi-sawmi ghadin nawaitu min shahri Ramadan

“I intend to keep tomorrow’s fast of the month of Ramadan.” The intention is in the heart; saying it is recommended.

Dua for Iftar (opening the fast)

Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu wa ‘alaika tawakkaltu wa ‘ala rizqika aftartu

“O Allah, for You I fasted, in You I believe, upon You I rely, and with Your provision I break my fast.”

After breaking the fast

Dhahaba-z-zama’u wabtallatil-‘urooqu wa thabatal-ajru in sha Allah

“The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is certain if Allah wills.” (Abu Dawud)
