Masnoon Duas

Dua before eating

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ

Bismillaah

In the name of Allah.

If you forget at the start, say: بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ (Bismillaahi awwalahu wa aakhirahu) — In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end.

Dua after eating

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِيْ أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِيْنَ

Alhamdu lillaahil ladhee at‘amanaa wa saqaanaa wa ja‘alanaa muslimeen

All praise is for Allah who fed us, gave us drink and made us Muslims.

Dua before sleeping

بِاسْمِكَ اللّٰهُمَّ أَمُوْتُ وَأَحْيَا

Bismika Allaahumma amootu wa ahyaa

In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.

Dua after waking up

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِيْ أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُوْرُ

Alhamdu lillaahil ladhee ahyaanaa ba‘da maa amaatanaa wa ilaihin nushoor

All praise is for Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the return.

Dua before entering the toilet

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

Allaahumma innee a‘oodhu bika minal khubuthi wal khabaa’ith

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils.

Say “Bismillaah” first.

Dua after leaving the toilet

غُفْرَانَكَ

Ghufraanak

I seek Your forgiveness.

Dua when leaving home

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللّٰهِ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ

Bismillaahi tawakkaltu ‘alallaahi wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaah

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah.

Dua when entering home

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ وَلَجْنَا وَبِسْمِ اللّٰهِ خَرَجْنَا وَعَلَى اللّٰهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

Bismillaahi walajnaa wa bismillaahi kharajnaa wa ‘alallaahi rabbinaa tawakkalnaa

In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we leave, and upon Allah our Lord we rely.

Then greet the family with Salam.

Dua when wearing new clothes

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِيْ كَسَانِيْ هٰذَا وَرَزَقَنِيْهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِّنِّيْ وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

Alhamdu lillaahil ladhee kasaanee haadhaa wa razaqaneehi min ghairi hawlin minnee wa laa quwwah

All praise is for Allah who clothed me with this and provided it for me without any power or strength on my part.

Dua when looking in the mirror

اَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِيْ فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِيْ

Allaahumma anta hassanta khalqee fa hassin khuluqee

O Allah, You have made my outward form beautiful, so make my character beautiful too.

Dua when sneezing

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ

Alhamdu lillaah

All praise is for Allah.

The listener replies: يَرْحَمُكَ اللّٰهُ (Yarhamukallaah — May Allah have mercy on you). The sneezer answers: يَهْدِيْكُمُ اللّٰهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ (Yahdeekumullaahu wa yuslihu baalakum — May Allah guide you and set your affairs right).

Dua for travelling (boarding a vehicle)

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِيْ سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهٗ مُقْرِنِيْنَ وَإِنَّآ إِلٰى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُوْنَ

Subhaanal ladhee sakhkhara lanaa haadhaa wa maa kunnaa lahoo muqrineen, wa innaa ilaa rabbinaa lamunqaliboon

Glory be to the One who has subjected this to us, for we could never have done it ourselves, and to our Lord we shall surely return.

Dua after Wudu

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَّآ إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهٗ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهٗ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهٗ وَرَسُوْلُهٗ

Ash-hadu al laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahoo laa shareeka lahoo wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhoo wa rasooluh

I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

Whoever says this after a complete Wudu, the eight gates of Paradise are opened for him.

Dua when entering the masjid

اَللّٰهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِيْ أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Allaahummaf-tah lee abwaaba rahmatik

O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.

Enter with the right foot.

Dua when leaving the masjid

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Allaahumma innee as’aluka min fadlik

O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.

Leave with the left foot.

Dua after the Adhan

اَللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّ هٰذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْقَائِمَةِ آتِ مُحَمَّدَنِ الْوَسِيْلَةَ وَالْفَضِيْلَةَ وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَّحْمُوْدَنِ الَّذِيْ وَعَدْتَّهٗ

Allaahumma rabba haadhihid da‘watit taammah, was salaatil qaa’imah, aati Muhammadanil waseelata wal fadeelah, wab‘ath-hu maqaamam mahmoodanil ladhee wa‘adtah

O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the prayer about to be established, grant Muhammad the Waseelah and excellence, and raise him to the praised station You have promised him.

The intercession of the Prophet ﷺ becomes due for whoever says this.

Tashahhud (At-Tahiyyat)

اَلتَّحِيَّاتُ لِلّٰهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلٰى عِبَادِ اللّٰهِ الصَّالِحِيْنَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَّآ إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهٗ وَرَسُوْلُهٗ

At-tahiyyaatu lillaahi was salawaatu wat tayyibaat, as-salaamu ‘alaika ayyuhan nabiyyu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh, as-salaamu ‘alainaa wa ‘alaa ‘ibaadillaahis saaliheen, ash-hadu al laa ilaaha illallaahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhoo wa rasooluh

All greetings, prayers and good things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

Durood-e-Ibrahim

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلٰى اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلٰى إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلٰى اٰلِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلٰى اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلٰى إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلٰى اٰلِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ

Allaahumma salli ‘alaa Muhammadin wa ‘alaa aali Muhammadin kamaa sallaita ‘alaa Ibraaheema wa ‘alaa aali Ibraaheema innaka hameedum majeed. Allaahumma baarik ‘alaa Muhammadin wa ‘alaa aali Muhammadin kamaa baarakta ‘alaa Ibraaheema wa ‘alaa aali Ibraaheema innaka hameedum majeed

O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You sent prayers upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.

Dua-e-Masura (before Salam)

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِيْ ظُلْمًا كَثِيْرًا وَّلَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ إِلَّآ أَنْتَ فَاغْفِرْ لِيْ مَغْفِرَةً مِّنْ عِنْدِكَ وَارْحَمْنِيْٓ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ

Allaahumma innee zalamtu nafsee zulman katheeraa, wa laa yaghfirudh dhunooba illaa ant, faghfir lee maghfiratam min ‘indika warhamnee, innaka antal ghafoorur raheem

O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly and none forgives sins but You, so forgive me with forgiveness from You and have mercy on me. You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

Dua-e-Qunoot (in Witr)

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْتَعِيْنُكَ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَنُؤْمِنُ بِكَ وَنَتَوَكَّلُ عَلَيْكَ وَنُثْنِيْ عَلَيْكَ الْخَيْرَ وَنَشْكُرُكَ وَلَا نَكْفُرُكَ وَنَخْلَعُ وَنَتْرُكُ مَنْ يَّفْجُرُكَ اَللّٰهُمَّ إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَلَكَ نُصَلِّيْ وَنَسْجُدُ وَإِلَيْكَ نَسْعٰى وَنَحْفِدُ وَنَرْجُوْ رَحْمَتَكَ وَنَخْشٰى عَذَابَكَ إِنَّ عَذَابَكَ بِالْكُفَّارِ مُلْحِقٌ

Allaahumma innaa nasta‘eenuka wa nastaghfiruka wa nu’minu bika wa natawakkalu ‘alaika wa nuthnee ‘alaikal khair, wa nashkuruka wa laa nakfuruk, wa nakhla‘u wa natruku mai yafjuruk. Allaahumma iyyaaka na‘budu wa laka nusallee wa nasjudu wa ilaika nas‘aa wa nahfidu wa narjoo rahmataka wa nakhshaa ‘adhaabaka inna ‘adhaabaka bil kuffaari mulhiq

O Allah, we seek Your help and forgiveness, we believe in You and rely on You, we praise You with all good, we thank You and are not ungrateful, and we abandon those who disobey You. O Allah, You alone we worship; to You we pray and prostrate; towards You we hasten and serve. We hope for Your mercy and fear Your punishment; surely Your punishment overtakes the disbelievers.

Recited in the third rak'at of Witr before Ruku, according to the Hanafi school.

Sayyid-ul-Istighfar (the best Istighfar)

اَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّيْ لَآ إِلٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِيْ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلٰى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ أَبُوْءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ وَأَبُوْءُ بِذَنْۢبِيْ فَاغْفِرْ لِيْ فَإِنَّهٗ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ إِلَّآ أَنْتَ

Allaahumma anta rabbee laa ilaaha illaa ant, khalaqtanee wa ana ‘abduk, wa ana ‘alaa ‘ahdika wa wa‘dika mastata‘t, a‘oodhu bika min sharri maa sana‘t, aboo’u laka bini‘matika ‘alayya wa aboo’u bidhambee, faghfir lee fa innahoo laa yaghfirudh dhunooba illaa ant

O Allah, You are my Lord; there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I keep Your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favour upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for none forgives sins but You.

Whoever says it with conviction in the day and dies before evening — or at night and dies before morning — will be among the people of Paradise.

Dua for anxiety and debt

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Allaahumma innee a‘oodhu bika minal hammi wal hazani wal ‘ajzi wal kasali wal bukhli wal jubni wa dala‘id daini wa ghalabatir rijaal

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from weakness and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from the burden of debt and from being overpowered by people.

Dua at the time of loss or calamity

إِنَّا لِلّٰهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُوْنَ

Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji‘oon

Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.

Dua when visiting the sick

لَا بَأْسَ طَهُوْرٌ إِنْ شَآءَ اللّٰهُ

Laa ba’sa tahoorun in shaa’ Allaah

No harm — it is a purification, if Allah wills.

Dua when it rains

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَّافِعًا

Allaahumma sayyiban naafi‘aa

O Allah, (make it) a beneficial rain.

Rabbana Atina (for good in both worlds)

رَبَّنَآ اٰتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَّفِي الْاٰخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَّقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Rabbanaa aatinaa fid dunyaa hasanatan wa fil aakhirati hasanatan wa qinaa ‘adhaaban naar

Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Dua for parents

رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيٰنِيْ صَغِيْرًا

Rabbir hamhumaa kamaa rabbayaanee sagheeraa

My Lord, have mercy on them both as they raised me when I was small.

Dua for knowledge

رَّبِّ زِدْنِيْ عِلْمًا

Rabbi zidnee ‘ilmaa

My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

Dua for spouse and children

رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ اَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيّٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ اَعْيُنٍ وَّاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِيْنَ اِمَامًا

Rabbanaa hab lanaa min azwaajinaa wa dhurriyyaatinaa qurrata a‘yuniw waj‘alnaa lil muttaqeena imaamaa

Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and children the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders of the righteous.

Dua of Musa for ease

رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِيْ صَدْرِيْ وَيَسِّرْ لِيْٓ اَمْرِيْ وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّنْ لِّسَانِيْ يَفْقَهُوْا قَوْلِيْ

Rabbish-rah lee sadree, wa yassir lee amree, wahlul ‘uqdatam mil lisaanee, yafqahoo qawlee

My Lord, expand my chest for me, make my task easy for me, and untie the knot from my tongue so they may understand my speech.

Dua of Yunus (in distress)

لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّآ اَنْتَ سُبْحٰنَكَ اِنِّيْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الظّٰلِمِيْنَ

Laa ilaaha illaa anta subhaanaka innee kuntu minaz zaalimeen

There is no god but You; glory be to You. Indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers.

No Muslim calls upon Allah with it for anything except that Allah answers him.
