Frequently asked questions
What is the Hijri date today?
Today, Wednesday, 7th Oct 2026, is 26 Rabi' al-Thani 1448 AH according to the Umm al-Qura calendar.
Why is the Hijri date different in India and Saudi Arabia?
Each Islamic month starts with the sighting of the new crescent. Saudi Arabia follows the pre-calculated Umm al-Qura calendar, while India, Pakistan and Bangladesh begin months after local sighting — so local dates are often one day behind.
How many days are in a Hijri month?
A Hijri month has either 29 or 30 days, and a Hijri year has 354 or 355 days — about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, which is why Ramadan moves earlier every year.
What year is it in the Islamic calendar?
It is 1448 AH (Anno Hegirae), counted from the Hijrah of the Prophet ﷺ from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE.
